Single Use Plastic Food Service Ware Ordinance
On April 19, 2022, the Board of Supervisors adopted the "Reduction of Waste from Single-Use Articles and Expanded Polystyrene Products” ordinance. The ordinance requires that food service ware be either recyclable, compostable, or reusable, and bans the retail sale of many expanded polystyrene products. It also requires that full-service restaurants use reusable food service ware.
County departments are now working on developing an implementation program for the ordinance, with enforcement starting in May 2023. This program is guided by a motion the Board adopted on April 5, 2022 titled “Single-Use Plastics Ordinance Compliance Assistance.” To find information about the ordinance including resources for businesses, please visit the ordinance website here.
